We give the welcome to Simone Zgraggen (violin) and Barbara Buntrock (viola) who join the AIMS 2012 faculty for the first time.

During the AIMS Festival 2012, we will hear the world premiere of the first string quartet of a Catalan composer Ramon Humet, work commissioned by AIMS.

AIMS will offer the opportunity to work with different orchestral formations:
  • The orchestra directed by the concertmaster, Sergey Ostrovsky.
  • Formations following historicist criteria that will work baroque and pre- classic repertoires with Johannes Geffert.
AIMS recovers the concerto-competition to give the opportunity to the young talents to perform as soloists with the orchestra during the AIMS Festival 2012.

Highlights

After the success and the good reception on the part of the students in the previous edition, AIMS repeats the seminar on instrumental improvisation with professor, Johannes Geffert.

The seminar supposes an opportunity to develop the basics for the instrumental improvisation.

The improvisation can be really very easy if it is learned of a systematical form. We all interpret great works with our instruments acting as soloists, in chamber music or with orchestra. The more we improve, the more demanding and perfectionists we turn, but at the same time we lose easily the fantasy and the imagination in our interpretations.

This seminar has different aspects of the improvisation:
  • Cadenzas and sequences from the elementary forms, to see how these can develop up to much more complex forms.
  • Historical ornamentations patterns of Baroque style will show us to create patterns of musical figurations.
  • Also it is necessary to understand and to practice playing in "free" tonality. To invent some patterns of fingering can help us to develop our own language.
The classes will be given in individual and collective form, according to the needs of the students.

At the end of the seminar, the students will be in conditions to improvise, alone or in group, small pieces in concert.
