AIMS FAQ’s

What does the 900€ fee includes?

  • A minimum of four private lessons with a selected teacher
  • Access as a listener to all classes of all teachers
  • Participation in the orchestra and chamber groups (prior selection by the faculty)
  • Accommodation from 10th to August 22nd
  • Breakfast each day from 11th to 22nd August
  • Lunch each day from 11th to 22nd August
  • Transportation and entrance to AIMS Festival concerts

What does the 900€ not includes?
Dinner is not included. AIMS does not offer dinner since we usually have concerts and trips, and is a good moment for students to meet.  

What should I do to formalize my inscription?
Send a registration fee of 200€.
We cannot reserve a place unless we received the registration fee.

What is the policy cancellation?
AIMS will return 700€ in case of cancellations caused by illness, important personal reasons or cases of force majeure.
The 200€ deposit will only be returned if you are not admitted to the Academy.

Who pays for bank commissions?
In some cases banks charged transaction commissions to our account. AIMS must receive the full amount of 900€. Possible bank commission’s charges must be paid by the sender. 

Are the instrumental lessons private?
At AIMS all instrumental lessons are individual which means “one by one”. Nevertheless any AIMS student is free to attend any lesson of any teacher as a listener.

Is there any age limitation?
AIMS does not have age limitation. Minor students will be provided with a supervisor to oversee their activities; parents must sign and return via email a consent authorization form which AIMS will provide.

Can we lend instruments from AIMS?
On request AIMS can provide simple double basses and some cellos to those students whose travel makes it difficult to carry instruments.

Do I have to bring scores and a music stand?
You need to bring your own scores (also piano parts). String players should bring their own music stands to practice in their rooms. Bring chamber music scores you’d like to play. 

 By when do I have to confirm my repertoire?
Before July 15th. Our pianist accompanists will highly appreciate to prepare your repertoires.

Do I have to play at the Orchestra and chamber ensembles?
A string orchestra and several chamber ensembles will be formed. Participation in these formations is mandatory upon selection of AIMS faculty.

AIMS will send the scores for each component of the various formations. Students must prepare their parts “ready for concert” before reaching Solsona.

 Is there a waiting list?
Yes, in case that the class you apply for is already full. At times we have cancellations.

How are the rooms in the Seminari?
The rooms at the Seminari don’t meet the hotel standards, but they are very functional. There are two single beds and a bathroom in each room.

Do we get beddings and towels at the Seminari?
Yes

Are there any clothes washing facilities?
There are some laundry shops in Solsona.

Do I have to stay in the Seminari?
Though not mandatory, we would rather if you do so with the rest of the students.

Can I have lunch anywhere?
The 900€ fee includes breakfast and lunch at the Hotel Sant Roc.

Is a good moment to meet with other students from around the world and report on all daily activities, timetable, logistics, etc. If you don’t want to benefit from it, you can have lunch anywhere at your expense; it will not be discounted from the 900€ fee.

How safe is Solsona?
Solsona is a small town and very safe. All can be done by foot.

Is there accommodation for accompanying parents?
Parents can either stay at the:
– Hotel Sant Roc where AIMS teachers stay. The cost is 47€ for single room and 84€ for double room per night (breakfast included).  Lunch at the hotel together with students and faculty is 9€.
– Seminari , with the students. Though very functional the Seminari doesn’t meet hotel standards. There are two single beds in each room and a bathroom.  The cost is 21€ per night (breakfast included).
– Family accommodation. You could be accommodated with families in Solsona who, free of charge, would like to do a language exchange.

Can we rent a car in Solsona?
Yes, there is only one place in Solsona to rent a car (Citroen garage). On request AIMS can assist to make reservations.

Where do students eat lunch?
All students and teachers eat lunch at the Hotel Sant Roc.
Parents who want to join lunch with their sons must pay 9€ per lunch.

How can I commute to Solsona?
Solsona is accessed by road; is s only an hour and a half from Barcelona by car, and a bit more than two hours by bus.  It’s just over 100 km from Barcelona.

From Barcelona’s airport you can take a taxi, shuttle bus, bus, train or subway to:
Barcelona – bus terminal Estació del Nord – “Alsa” bus line to Solsona

Taxi :
A taxi is the easiest and fastest way to get to Barcelona. It takes about 20-25 minutes. The price ranges from 25€ to 30€ (depending of traffic).

If you decide to take a taxi straight to Solsona, the price is about 140€ which you will need to pay directly to the driver.  If you wish, we will be glad to send a taxi to pick you up from Solsona.   

Aerobus: There is an airport shuttle bus Aerobus  that goes from Barcelona Airport to Barcelona city centre. You can get off the bus at Plaza Catalunya stop. From there take the Metro (subway) line 1 (L1) to Arc de Triomf.

Get off at “Arc de Triomf”. Depending on the exit you take out, you will have to walk one block to the right (with the Arc de Triomf in your back) to see the bus station (Estació Nord). Inside the station buy your ticket to Solsona at the ALSA Alsina Graells ticket office.

Bus:
Bus 46 -Most of you will arrive at Terminal 1 (T1) of Barcelona airport. Upon arrival follow the bus symbol and connection signs and go one floor down to the “Metropolitans” bus stop.

Take the public bus No. 46 to Plaça Espanya. The single ticket price is 2€ which you buy on the bus. This bus leaves every 20 minutes and Plaça Espanya is the last stop.

For those of you who arrive at Terminal 2 (T2) is the same procedure. The No.46 bus stops in front of T2.

At Plaça Espanya you have to take the Metro (subway) line 1 (L1) to Arc de Triomf. Get off at “Arc de Triomf”. Depending on the exit you take out, you will have to walk one block to the right (with the Arc de Triomf in your back) to see the bus station (Estació Nord). Inside the station buy your ticket to Solsona at the ALSA Alsina Graells ticket office.

Renfe Train:
The airport is also served by the Rodalies commuter train. The line is R2 Nord and it is operated by Renfe.

The train station is located near T2 opposite T2B and is connected to the terminal by an overhead walkway (entrance at the beginning of T2B, just before T2A, on the 1st floor).
From T1 you’ll need to take the free shuttle bus that connects the 2 terminals, it’s a 10 minutes ride.

For the city center it is recommended that you get off at the Passeig de Gràcia station. From there, head to Plaça Catalunya to take the Metro (subway) line 1 (L1) to Arc de Triomf.

Get off at “Arc de Triomf”. Depending on the exit you take out, you will have to walk one block to the right (with the Arc de Triomf in your back) to see the bus station (Estació Nord). Inside the station buy your ticket to Solsona at the ALSA Alsina Graells ticket office.

Subway: Take the L9 Sud (orange line) to Torrasa stop and from there take the Metro (subway) line 1 (L1) to Arc de Triomf.

Get off at “Arc de Triomf”. Depending on the exit you take out, you will have to walk one block to the right (with the Arc de Triomf in your back) to see the bus station (Estació Nord). Inside the station buy your ticket to Solsona at the ALSA Alsina Graells ticket office.

AIMS does not provide shuttle to students or families.

Can I arrive to Solsona earlier than 17pm or a few days earlier?
If you arrive the same day, try not to do so later than 17pm.
If you arrive a few days earlier or depart after the Academy is over, AIMS will not pay for additional nights.
The price for the room/breakfast is about 25€ a day. AIMS needs to be informed about early arrivals/late departures

What about if I cannot stay for the whole duration of the Festival?
Though we prefer that you stay during the whole Festival, exceptionally and upon agreement with the direction you can stay fewer days.

Do we receive a Certificate of Participation?
Yes, you will receive a Certificate of participation from AIMS.

What is the concert attire for the performances?
Women: Black pants/dress/skirt and blouse
Man: Black pants, shirt and shoes for men 

Do I need private insurance?
AIMS has liability insurance which covers all participants, however all students must have medical insurance to cover any illness or accident.

How is the weather in Solsona?
T
he temperature in Solsona tends to be high in August reaching 25 to 30 degrees Celsius. Bring your summer clothes but also some warmer cloth because temperatures may go down at night or after storms. If you like to swim: take your swimming suit!
