Born in Seoul (South Korea), Seon-hee Myong began musical studies at the age of four. When she was nine years old, she made her debut in a recital dedicated to the sonatas of Ludwig van Beethoven, and at fourteen she debuted as a soloist with the Korean National Symphony Orchestra performing Tchaikovsky’s Concerto No.1. When she was just fifteen years old, she moved to the United States to study at the North Carolina School of Performing Arts with Joseph Kalichstein.

From 1981 to 1985, she attended Indiana University-Bloomington and studied with Edward Auer and Zadel Skolovsky. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in music with a Performer’s Certificate, the highest music qualification awarded at this university. In 1985 a scholarship took her to the Julliard School of Music in New York, where she met Joseph Kalichstein, and she eventually earned her master’s degree.

From 1988 to 1990, Seon-hee Myong was an assistant professor at the State University of New York. During her career, Seon-hee has won several awards and recognitions such as the Helena Rubinstein Award and the William Patscheck Award. She has frequently performed concerts both as a soloist and with chamber music groups in North America, South America, Europe and Asia. Seon-hee has recorded a CD with cellist Lluís Claret, called Homage to Pau Casals. She has also recorded with German, Swiss and Korean radio studios.

In 2005, Seon-hee was recruited by pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim to join the Barenboim-Said Foundation, a musical peace project dedicated to providing free music education to children and adolescents in Palestine.

In 2014, she made an acclaimed debut with the Changwon Philharmonic Orchestra performing Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto. Since the creation of the AIMS FOUNDATION in 2015, Seon-hee continues to dedicate much of her time to performing at social and charitable concerts (hospitals, homes for the elderly, centers for vulnerable groups, etc.).
